Pedro Albizu Campos - “El Maestro”Often referred to as “Puerto Rico’s Malcolm X”, Pedro Albizu Campos was not only a leader in Puerto Rico’s Independence movement from American but was also the President/leader of the Puerto Rican Nationalist Party. Always one to fight against social ills, Albizu Campos felt it was important for Puerto Ricans to acknowledge their African ancestry. He himself spoke out against the discrimination and racism of in his homeland -towards Blacks- and confronted the mentality of those who did not acknowledge their African roots infavor of the Spanish heritage.
